Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Home: Welcome

ABOUT ME

I am an acoustic engineer, guitar teacher and session guitarist with over 15 years’ guitar playing experience. For the past five years I have been regularly touring with Keiko Rise, one of the UK’s most engaging party bands at glitzy weddings and parties. I am also an RGT registered guitar tutor and teach in and around my hometown of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

My specialisms are in pop, rock and blues electric guitar and popular music theory. However, I also teach a range of styles in both acoustic and electric guitar. As a registered guitar tutor with the RGT, I can also help you work towards graded exams in guitar and popular music theory. So whether you are looking to try something new and enjoyable or need a bit of one-on-one guidance from a reliable professional, please contact me to see how I can be of service.

Advanced Music Theory

I know how hard it can be to find a reliable teacher that can introduce practical music theory that makes sense and feels applicable to the guitar. As an experienced and passionate guitar teacher, I believe in an approach that gives students’ positive, constructive ways to learn. I design my lessons according to my students’ needs, with an emphasis on introducing music theory fundamentals right from the start. I also teach more advanced popular music theory up to, and including, LCM Grade 8.

Beginner Fundamentals

I specialise in Beginner Fundamentals, with the majority of my students having little or no previous playing experience. I know how to reach my students with the right balance of personalised attention, patience, practical training and positive encouragement. Whether you are looking at getting your child engaged in music from a young age, or you are an adult wanting to start playing a new instrument, I can help you discover why the guitar is one of the most popular instruments to learn.

If you’ve been playing for some time and wish to further develop your playing skills or perhaps sit some exams, I can provide the tools and guidance to help you excel. Everything You Need to Know

WHAT AGE RANGE DO YOU TEACH?

The majority of my students are typically aged 11-14, however, I teach any age range, including primary school age, teenagers or adults from complete beginner to intermediate level.

WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR LESSONS?

Lessons are taught in your own home and typically take place during weekday evenings. I teach in Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas (up to approximately 10 miles out-of-town).

I broadly follow the RGT and LCM exam syllabuses as these provide a great way to structure your learning and benchmark your progress, however, there is no need to sit the exams unless you want to. I also teach a range of practical playing skills for those that just want to learn how to play their favourite songs.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TEACHING SERVICES?

Lessons are typically one hour in duration and are charged at £30 per lesson. Shorter half hour lessons are sometimes recommended for younger students (primary school age) and are charged at £20 per lesson.
